Gottheimer Hosts Farmers Roundtable to Discuss Fighting for North Jersey Agricultural Priorities

SUSSEX COUNTY, N.J. — On Friday, April 6, Congressman Josh Gottheimer, NJ-5, hosted Sussex and Warren County farmers and experts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a farmers roundtable on agricultural priorities at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. The current Farm Bill will expire at the end of September 2018 and Congress is expected to consider its reauthorization later this spring.

Gottheimer was joined by farmers from the Sussex and Warren County Board of Agriculture, Branchville, Green, Lafayette, Newton, Sandyston, Sussex Borough, Vernon, Wantage, Allamuchy, Belvidere, Blairstown, Hackettstown, Hardwick, Hope, Mansfield, Washington Borough, and Washington Township Warren, including Assemblyman Parker Space (LD-24) and New Jersey Farm Bureau President Ryck Suydam. The group discussed lowering taxes, standing up for North Jersey priorities in the upcoming Farm Bill, earning grants that help claw back the federal tax dollars we already send to Washington, and cutting unnecessarily burdensome regulations.

“North Jersey farmers know I’m here to fight for them. Thank you to the Sussex and Warren County farmers who sat with me to discuss critical ways to make doing business in North Jersey easier and more affordable,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Food and agriculture is the third-largest industry across New Jersey, and there are more than 1,500 farms in the Fifth District alone. I am excited to continue working alongside North Jersey business leaders to do more to invest in our dynamic agricultural sector that creates quality jobs, ensures food security, and supports our economy.”
