WYCKOFF, NJ — U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced today that he has received the endorsement of the Sierra Club, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental advocacy group, for his leadership protecting the environment on a local and national level.

I’m proud of my record on these issues, and I’ll continue fighting aggressively for practical, achievable, and bipartisan solutions to protect our planet and the health and safety of our families for generations to come.”
In Congress, Gottheimer has fought to combat climate change and protect our air, water, wildlife, and all of our open spaces.
Gottheimer helped shape and pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, to get lead out of our children’s drinking water and build the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure we need for the next generation of vehicles. To make sure North Jersey is ready to tackle future energy needs he has been laser-focused on setting up access to clean, renewable energy systems, as well as a reliable and efficient EV charging infrastructure. Gottheimer announced in February that through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, New Jersey will claw back $104 million and $2.5 billion in available grants to install thousands of EV charging stations along key roads and highways, ensuring New Jersey is able to provide reliable and clean charging for the rapidly increasing EV market, cut pollution, protect our clean air, and create jobs.
He has also voted to incentivize the move toward energy independence and alternative energy with electric vehicles, wind and solar power, and power grid transition to clean energy sources.
Josh announced a Green Action Plan to fight for clean, lead-free water in our schools and communities, protect our cherished parks and open spaces, work quickly and globally to tackle climate change, protect the Jersey Shore from off-shore drilling, and combat toxic dumping in our communities.
Gottheimer helped pass and sign into law the bipartisan Great American Outdoors Act to preserve and protect our country’s public lands and National Parks, including the Fifth District’s Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and all 72 miles of the Appalachian Trail that run through the Garden State. He has also helped lead the fight to stand up against the illegal dumping taking place at the Vernon Waste Mountain and the harm it can have on our environment, on our drinking water, and on our families.
Additionally, after years of fighting to protect North Jersey’s lakes, this year Gottheimer helped claw back new federal investment from Washington to North Jersey for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to address Harmful Algal Blooms impacting North Jersey’s lakes’ water, local businesses and recreation, and families. This federal investment was made possible by the federal American Rescue Plan passed by Congress and creates a new grant program to support Jersey’s lakes.
Last month, Gottheimer helped pass the bipartisan Recovering America’s Wildlife Act to fully protect and conserve our land, air, water, and wildlife.
