Gottheimer and Starrs Have Worked Together to Improve Access to Broadband, Lower Taxes, Increase Transparency, Support Local Farms
NEWTON, N.J. – Today, Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Thor Labs, Republican Mayor Adele Starrs of Knowlton Township endorsed Josh Gottheimer for Congress.
“I am here today, in short, because it’s my job, as mayor, to get things done for my town,” said Republican Mayor Adele Starrs. “The Congressman is actually making that possible for me and the mayors of the small towns around us. He has established an active working relationship with the mayors of small towns, and he has given local leaders opportunities that actually help us make progress on issues that our residents care deeply about. It really is exceptional to have a representative on the federal level give this kind of support to small towns’ issues.”

Gottheimer and Starrs have worked together on a host of issues, including improving access to fast, reliable, and affordable broadband for Knowlton residents, demanding transparency around the proposed Route 80 Rock Wall, supporting Knowlton’s local farms, and applying for and winning federal grants that bring critical resources to local towns while relieving the burden on residents’ property tax bills.
Since being sworn in, Gottheimer has worked across party lines to get things done for Fifth District residents. In New Jersey, Gottheimer has worked with Democrat, Independent, and Republican mayors across Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, and Warren Counties to fight for the residents they represent, including by clawing back the tax dollars residents already sent to Washington. In his first year, Gottheimer and local leaders have clawed back from the federal government $290 per household, a 16% increase from recent years. In Congress, Gottheimer was named the most bipartisan freshman Democrat by the nonpartisan Lugar Center, and serves as the Co-Chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of 24 Democrats and 24 Republicans who come together to solve some of the most pressing issues facing our nation.
