U.S. Chamber endorses Gottheimer
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed congressional incumbent Josh Gottheimer, D-5th District, who’s up for reelection in November.
It announced its backing Monday at the opening for an indoor skydiving facility in Paramus.
The chamber said it’s endorsing Gottheimer because he’s “worked with both sides of the aisle to lower taxes, cut red tape, and invest in infrastructure to bring jobs and economic prosperity” to his district.
“As we’ve lost the middle in Congress, we have leaders like Josh Gottheimer who are willing to go and embrace the middle,” said Rob Engstrom, the chamber’s senior vice president and national political director. “That’s really the tradition in our country when you think about the big things that have gotten done, people who have the courage to reach across the aisle.”
Gottheimer is the ranking Democrat representative on the Problem Solvers Caucus, a 48 member group in the House of Representatives that seeks to create bipartisan cooperation on key policy matters.
During the 2016 election, Gottheimer narrowly unseated five-term Republican incumbent Scott Garrett, and will face against Republican candidate John McCann in the coming general election.
