Gottheimer Hosts Ceremony to Congratulate 2018 Fifth District Service Academy Nominees for Their Dedication to Serving Their Country

Yesterday, April 29, 2018, at his Glen Rock District Office, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hosted the 2018 Fifth District Service Academy Nominees and their families for a ceremony to celebrate their hard work, tenacity, and dedication to serving their country.

As the Representative for New Jersey’s Fifth District, Gottheimer, with the help of the Fifth District Candidate Selection Committee, has the honor and responsibility of nominating deserving college-age constituents for appointment to four U.S. service academies: the Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy. Upon graduation, service academy graduates are commissioned as officers in the military or merchant marine for at least five years.

“There is nothing more important than having the backs of those who serve our country, and supporting those pursuing a career of steadfastly defending our American ideals, at home and abroad,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer. “This year’s Service Academy Nominees are bound by a shared sense of duty – to their families, their communities, and their country. They put the needs of others ahead of their own, which is what Jersey Values are all about. I couldn’t be more proud to nominate this deserving group of young leaders to the U.S. service academies, and I look forward to being their partner and their resource as they work to move our country forward.”

“Josh has been working with the veterans since day one. Right after he got voted in he came to our American Legion in Newton and asked us, ‘what can I do?’ And he’s very strongly oriented towards veterans, and we’re very proud to work with him. Recently he just helped us get a psychiatrist for our clinic in Newton, and we wouldn’t have done that without him,” said Tony Gallopo, Past Vice Commander of the American Legion-Department of New Jersey and a member of the Candidate Selection Committee and the Warren/Sussex Veterans Coalition.
